This new collection of Tapestry Furniture is made up of different chairs upholstered in a vibrant patchwork of embroidered canvases. It is a celebration of the handcrafted – a contemporary reworking of generations-old handiwork.

Embroidery's rich colours, strong images, tactile and malleable surfaces provide an ideal medium to tell my story. An integral thread which weaves through my work is that of reclaiming and reworking lost objects into new treasures, breathing new life into the forgotten flotsam and jetsam of our lives to create modern works which are at home in the contemporary design landscape.

I select embroideries that range in scale from tiny to substantial and representing themes from the domestic though natural idylls. Transposing these purely decorative pieces from wall art onto a three-dimensional, functional form imbues them with a new purpose, while the juxtaposition of the unique works, each bearing the maker’s mark in its imagery, colour, stitchwork and style, emphasises the magnitude of the human effort and their inherent skill.

All the canvases are collected from auction houses, vintage markets and second hand shops around Australia.

Each chair shape is different and as is the ottomans I also patchwork in tapestries.
