imagination will take you everywhere …
I describe myself as a designer and finder having always been fascinated by transforming the discarded. My passion for upcycling has been there since I was a child. I was always collecting things – ceramics, brass, leather and fabrics and trying to rework them into something beautiful. After university I lived overseas for ten years. When I returned to Australia I rekindled my love for creating objects from disappearing or culturally obsolete items and materials. I started designing and making one off jewellery pieces under my label ‘the crown jewels’ which was stocked in Paul Smith stores globally from 2002. Following my success with jewellery, I moved on to work on designing furniture and lighting. My time is now spent passionately immersed in design projects which range from conceptualizing brands to creating bespoke furniture pieces and sourcing unique things for retail and restaurant fit-outs. My work covers tailor-made lights, furniture and brass fittings for commercial clients, and creating one off pieces that have thematic reference for new businesses. I also love creating special pieces evocative of life changing memories just for that one person. I thrive on turning every idea – both commercial and personal – into enchanting creations.
Most of my work represents a reworking of things not usually connected, to provoke thought, create humour, celebrate colour, and to make the viewer smile. My collections are stocked in the wonderful Liberty of London and the Asian department stores Lane Crawford along with many overseas and local commercial and private collections. Each piece I make is stamped on the base, numbered, signed and described, and is handmade in my sun drenched Melbourne studio, filled with imagination and good intent.
